Hearing/Lung Function Testing
Our provincially certified Industrial Audiometric and Lung Function Technicians provide fast, professional, and efficient testing services designed to support workplace compliance and employee health. Testing is available in our modern, welcoming clinic or on-site at your workplace to reduce downtime and minimize travel-related disruptions.
We help companies meet occupational noise and respiratory health requirements quickly, economically, and efficiently through:
Mobile industrial hearing and lung function testing
Sound level surveys
Noise awareness education
Annual written hearing and lung function conservation reports
With a friendly, no-judgment approach, we make it easy to keep your workforce compliant, healthy, and work-ready.
Audiometric Testing
Audiometric testing evaluates a person’s ability to hear tones at different frequencies and volumes, helping identify early signs of hearing loss before they become long-term concerns. Regular employee testing plays an important role in protecting workers from industrial hearing loss and reducing the risk of workplace injuries related to noise exposure.
Both the short-term and long-term effects of excessive workplace noise can often be prevented through early recognition, proper evaluation, and effective control of noise exposure. Our efficient testing process helps employers maintain compliance while supporting employee safety and hearing conservation programs.
Spirometry & Lung Function Testing
Spirometry is one of the most common Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), used to measure lung function by evaluating the volume and flow of air a person can inhale and exhale. This testing helps assess respiratory health and identify potential breathing concerns early.
In occupational settings, spirometry is commonly used to establish baseline lung function before assigning workers to physically demanding roles, positions requiring respirator use, or environments where respiratory hazards may be present. This can include exposure to chemicals, airborne particulates, dust, or reduced oxygen environments.
Our fast, reliable testing services help employers maintain compliance while minimizing downtime and keeping workers safe, healthy, and ready for the job site.
Hearing Protection Fit Testing
Prairie Industrial Health Services is pleased to introduce a new hearing protection fit testing service with the 3M E-A-Rfit Dual-Ear Validation System.
For many workplaces, selecting hearing protection is only part of the job. The real question is whether that earplug or earmuff is actually delivering enough protection for the individual worker wearing it. That is where fit testing becomes valuable.
The 3M E-A-Rfit Dual-Ear Validation System uses quantitative F-MIRE technology to measure the amount of protection a worker is receiving from their hearing protector. It tests both ears simultaneously, measures across 7 standard frequencies, and produces a Personal Attenuation Rating, or PAR, in less than 5 seconds.
This means employers can move beyond assumptions and get a clearer picture of how well hearing protection is performing in the real world. It also gives workers an opportunity to learn whether their hearing protection is being worn correctly and whether another option may provide a better fit.
Why this service matters
It helps confirm whether hearing protection is providing adequate protection for the individual worker.
It supports hearing conservation programs with worker-specific, measurable results.
It can improve employee education by showing the impact of correct insertion and proper fit.
It provides documentation that can support records, follow-up, and program improvement.
It can be used with earplugs and earmuffs.
A practical addition for employers
For safety leaders, this service adds another layer of confidence to a hearing conservation program. Instead of relying only on a listed noise reduction value, fit testing helps show what protection the worker is actually achieving during the test.
Because the system is fast, it can be a practical option for onboarding, periodic hearing conservation reviews, or targeted follow-up when noise exposure and hearing protection performance need closer attention.
We offer this service in our Saskatoon office, and we can also do on-site testing for your convenience.
SGI Medicals
The National Safety Code (NSC) Program requires commercial drivers to maintain an up-to-date medical report in order to keep their licence valid and operate vehicles across Canada and the United States. Drivers must also meet NSC medical standards to ensure they are medically fit to safely perform driving duties.
Our SGI medical assessments are completed efficiently and professionally, typically taking 30 minutes or less. We provide a streamlined process designed to minimize wait times and get drivers back on the road as quickly as possible, while ensuring all regulatory requirements are fully met.
Occupational Medical & Fit-for-Work Assessments
Whether you need to meet job site requirements or company-specific policies, we provide comprehensive occupational medical services to help ensure your workforce is safe, compliant, and fit for duty. Our experienced in-house medical team delivers fast, efficient, and seamless service in a professional, welcoming environment designed to minimize downtime and get workers back on site quickly.
We offer a full range of occupational medical assessments and testing services, including:
Health Assessments
Physical Examinations
Fit-to-Work Assessments
Physical Demands Analysis
Back Assessments
Respirator Fit Testing
Vision & Color Testing
Blood Pressure Monitoring
Glucose Testing
X-rays & Laboratory Blood Work
Standard Occupational Medicals
These evaluations are conducted to determine whether employees are medically fit to safely perform safety-sensitive job duties. By identifying and managing potential health risks early, these assessments help protect workers, support workplace safety programs, and reduce the risk of injury to employees, co-workers, and the environment.
With flexible in-clinic and on-site service options, our team makes occupational medical testing simple, efficient, and tailored to your company’s needs.
Respirator/Mask Fit Testing
We provide both Qualitative and Quantitative Respirator Fit Testing to ensure workers are properly protected and meet workplace safety requirements. Our services are delivered in a professional, efficient, and no-judgment environment, with convenient in-clinic and on-site options designed to reduce downtime and keep your workforce job-ready.
Quantitative Respirator Fit Testing
Considered the “gold standard” of fit testing, quantitative respirator fit testing uses advanced equipment to measure the exact amount of leakage into a respirator. Using specialized technology such as a Quantifit system, we evaluate respirator performance while the worker completes a series of movements and breathing exercises that simulate real job site conditions.
Prairie Industrial Health Services provides a documented fit factor, delivering precise, objective results to confirm optimal respirator protection and compliance.
Qualitative Respirator Fit Testing
Qualitative fit testing is a pass/fail method based on the wearer’s sensory response. While wearing a respirator (such as an N95 mask), the worker is exposed to a testing agent such as Bitrex solution. If the respirator seal is compromised, the individual may detect a taste, smell, or experience a response such as coughing or irritation.
This method provides a simple, practical, and effective way to confirm proper respirator fit for many workplace applications.
